Not properly resolving those negative emotions is really bad due to it will just come back if history repeats itself.
As for Luna, she wouldn't be developing on her own at all but essentially brainwashed due to the whole purging thing rathwer than truly reforming out of her free will.
The actual issues that led NMM to happen weren't exactly resolved.
