Ah, I see. Also, drawing ponies with their face on the ground can make it harder to design facial features properly. And while short-maned mares do exist in MLP (look at Limestone Pie, for instance), most females have longer manes, while males generally have shorter manes. Another thing to note is brown to red colored mares are pretty uncommon, with most mares having lighter colors like blues, yellows, and pinks. However, most stallions that I have seen have those darker colors. Finally, the flat jaw on the lower mare (who I am guessing is canon deminor) gives her more of a masculine look, since all stallions have flat jaws. Mares tend to have shorter curved jaws in MLP. Though I am guessing the only reason the jaw looks flat here is because it is supposed to be squished on the ground.  
Basically, the only reason I am bringing any of this up is to explain the reasons why I think that the ‘mare’ Cannon Deminor looks like a stallion in this image.

Eh… I just tried to design a mare that way.  
I sometimes go blindly with designing, when the mare i go for is suppose to be “background pony” or “not important”.

Alright. The bottom pony looks kinda masculine that’s why I thought it was a stallion.
