New Orleans engulfed in eternal night would rock so hard. The dead would rise. The voodoo houngans would smack them down. The jazz festivals would become elaborate rites of madness and debauchery, summoning mind-reaving horrors Earth was not meant to know. The food would summon angels that would drive them back, before the angels and the mind-reaving horrors sit down together for dinner and a zydeco performance.
 
They could import food from sunnier climates, which would be willing to keep it around for young people to go there as a test of manhood and magical skill, to return marked or not at all.
