I assume the spell used to turn Twilight into an alicorn fails and results in being the spell that causes Nyx’s birth in the forest somehow.
Then again it’s never quite explained how Twilight turned into her cutie mark and appeared in the middle of ponyville, so I can suspend my disbelief enough to assume Nyx could be in the Everfree Forest like in Past Sins.
I think older Twilight gets erased but that means the infamous Nyx enters the show as the ‘unforeseen consequence’ to keep the number of intended alicorns in balance.
