Well, the term “robot” is rather loose when it comes to transformers at this point.

Because 1) they’re robots why do they need to gender themselves is how some have seen it and 2) Transformers is or back in the 80s was considered a boys toyline so there was need for fembots especially if they didn’t have a toy to promote.  
It’s a whole crazy history.
 
Sexual reproduction wouldn’t the weirdest thing to turn out to be a thing but it’s a bit of world building any continuity probably won’t get into since this a franchise that still needs to be kid friendly-ish.  
Though Mainframe did detail Blackarachnia’s x-rays with some uh “tubes” in her pelvic area so make of that what you will.

Having any argument over transformer sexes is absurd. Yes, they have females, I don’t see why that’s such an issue that some writers have to make inane plotlines to justify females existing.
 
Heck, the very few females existing in G1, to me, helped explain why the transformers as a species were on the verge of extinction and just how terrible the war really was.
 
Granted the process of transformers reproduction has been constantly up for debate, but the humanoid shape and the plotline that humans and transformers share a vague connection due to the Unicron/Primus connection has been enough for me to just accept that there are males and females.

In the New IDW yes but the Cygate here make it feel as if this cover is influenced by Old IDW.

The current comics are actually an entirely new continuity that started last year. Given that female Transformers were normal from the start in this one, I doubt Arcee has the same history.

I really did not feel that it was necessary to make a story of the mad scientist to justify Arcee, only to make sex more than by reproduction, it is only by identification with the variety of bodies and voices … it is that they are robots for the love of god .

Because writer Simon Furman didn’t think robots needed to be classified as females so he justified Arcee’s existence as a mad scientist’s experiment to introduce females into the species.  
Later writers would come in to spend the rest of the Old IDW continuity rectconning that femmes had been natural to Cybertron but phased out at some point that colonies established in the past still had females and that some bots that started as male felt “she” was what felt right for them including Arcee but her transition was not done right.

We need toys, Hasrbo. Stat. And they need to be Combiners too, like an Elements of Harmony Gestalt. Harmonious…or
