I know what you mean! Websites that do this kind of stuff have kinda missed the idea of “April Fool’s Day” - an “April Fool” is meant to be a practical joke, a prank, a trick, something that you weren’t expecting and that when it happens makes you feel like the eponymous April Fool.
 
This kind of temporary site redesign isn’t anything of the sort…it’s just weird and mildly annoying, and I usually consider simply not coming on the site until 2 April in order to avoid it entirely. But I don’t, because I do enjoy seeing some of the latest pic uploads. :)

You could not change the theme or any settings at all during AF18

April Fools traditions:  
Step 1: Derpi changes its theme.  
Step 2: People complain about how their specific timezone isn’t catered to.  
Step 3: People complain about Derpi being different for 0.27% of the year because they literally have nothing better to do.

you could use an extension to apply a custom style sheet, except mozilla patched firefox so that extension wouldn’t work any longer BECAUSE THEY HATE THEIR USERS FFFF

Hmm, that brings something to mind, now that you used it: when you do ^superscript or _subscript text under this layout, it seems to be noticeably harder to read than it normally is, without zooming in at least, or copying it and pasting.
