The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

I have every confidence in the writers to do their best under such limitations. However, they might be unable to work around them in a satisfactory manner. It is only a matter of time. The problem lies in the process of Hasbro, the command chain, so to speak. In practice, this results in executive meddling that completely ignores the lore of the show, and the vision set by Lauren Faust.

They god-knows-how “design” completely arbitrary toys that the suits think will sell well, with complete disregard for everything else, and bend the show to accomodate it, no matter how inconsistent they are. Instead, why don’t they try to give the writers more freedom to create a consistent, entertaining series, and then derive show-accurate toys from it, or buy up the designs of fan-created toys? Quality of both the show and the toys would improve, along with customer satisfaction. Sales would increase tremendously due to the quality.

the only reason i’m not looking foward to it is because i’m a larson h8r and i don’t like all the praise the guy is getting. i more or less have faith in the rest of the crew, but with that guy as the writer i’m going to have a hard time watching it with an open mind.

Oh there are several objections I have to it, none of them being the presence of a toy. The destiny-swap would be good enough to make the toy, and they have that all set up. It’s the stuff after, since it’s looking in all likelihood that this is NOT temporary, that’s all wrong.

It’s not that I expect Twilight or her situation to change drastically, but that’s just it: this is a DRASTIC change to the character that everypony would notice just by LOOKING at her. It makes no sense that ponies would treat her the same, and if it really is ascendance, then any humility she shows is intrinsically false humility.

If somepony accuses her of thinking she’s better than them, ala Trixie, and she says that isn’t true, her wings will cause her words to ring hollow. Because, in this universe, they prove that she IS better than them. Which, simply, sucks.

What about the sentiment “you’re perfect the way you are”? That’s a wonderful sentiment, more wonderful than dreams of being a prince/princess (or a president since it’s rather common for Americans not to care about royalty). Any child who feels that their differences make them worse, somehow inferior to others, would appreciate this.

Every innocent child with a loving parent wants to think their parent is the best in the world.

But if we add this? An objective mark of how good or special somepony is? Those wonderful dreams and cherished words ring hollow. You are NOT perfect the way you are. Your parent is NOT a good enough pony. The lack of a wing and horn set tells you so.

This… I can’t agree with. I’m sorry. Such a thing goes strongly against my moral code.

Derpy from the show would share that sentiment, “you’re perfect the way you are”… but by all appearances she’s being phased out as well. I could understand this simple act of corporate cowardice, it happens. Derpy, fan favorite or not, was a background pony with 1 canon speaking role.

But with Twilight, I’m sorry, every time I look at her should this (in all likelihood) come to pass, I’ll just see the words “you aren’t good enough.”

I’ll confess, I am autistic. I have an IQ three standard deviations above the norm, but I’ve been challenged in some ways. There are things that, despite my intellect, I cannot do. While she was only my fourth-favorite pony, I identified with Twilight. A smart pony who valued friends, but had a lot to learn. Who was brilliant, but still messed things up once in a while, who had limits. That there were things her friends could do, and that she couldn’t. With good intentions, but not an alien, untouchable, shining beacon of morality either.

Now, with her newfound pegasis and earth pony parts, I’m afraid that there are few things that I could call “limits” anymore.

If executive meddling is to blame, that’s a shame, but that’s a cause to the effect, not a reason to watch something despite glaring flaws. If an arsonist burns down a convenience store, I’m still not going to buy a pile of ash and claim it’s a wonderful bag of potato chips.

I’ll still watch the episode, and will continue to write (S2-based) fanfiction. But this show, if this is permanent, will have gone from “Amazing” to “good”, at best. It’s a shark-jump in my opinion, but the question I have is how much it was cleared by.

I don’t expect everyone to have my opinion. I don’t expect people would be unable to claim otherwise. I don’t mean to sound pretentious, and I’m sure there can be many eloquently-phrased rebuttals against my perspective, but that’s just where I stand.

I understand where you’re coming from, and I agree: It sucks having things foisted upon a creative team from on high…but we have to be realistic here: My Little Pony has always been Hasbro’s baby, and unfortunately given how fucked up intellectual property is today, they can dictate whatever they want regarding said property.

Do I agree with something being forced upon a creative team? Not at all. Can I understand their predicament? Fully

NOW LET’S BURN THE VILLAGE AND SING MIGHTY VIKING SO-
Whoops, I picked wrong reaction.
I think there are limits. They weren’t even given a concept, they were given an outcome that has a long-lasting effect not of entirely in their control.
If the creators are positively fine with it, then so am I - but I don’t think / don’t know if they are.

It would be interesting to know just how much Hasbro “commands” studio B on the show.
Mlp:Fim is still so different when you compare it to the other gen’s..
