I, like everyone else, have my own personal head cannon considering human ponies. Human names, however, I’ve never even considered. Being a fan of etymology, I like your thinking.

Applejack’s name doesn’t work for me. I prefer Betty Sutherland. Betty is ultimately derived from “Elisheva”, meaning “my God is an oath” or “my God is abundance”, both of which fit well with Applejack’s honesty and profession as a farmer. Sutherland is derived from the Old Norse words for “Southern” and “land”, which goes with her accent.

I’d put Rebecca as Rarity’s name (its most common meaning is beautiful and captivating, which fits her the best), Grace as Fluttershy’s name (Fluttershy as a model was mostly known for being graceful, Rarity is more elegant), and Curtis as Rarity’s surname (it means courteous/polite, and it sound sorta mundane, like Rarity’s family)

The others are spot-on, though.

My problem with this:
My humanized headcanon (that I made for my Pony/Gundam fic) is:
Twilight and Fluttershy are Japanese (still debating whether if I should make Derpy American or Japanese)
I didn’t really think about Applejack…
Not sure about Rarity but I wanted to give her a Jewish name
Diana is a good name for Pinkie
I gave Rainbow Dash a Gundam sounding name: Rayne B. Dash
And Spike’s name doesn’t need to change

Gloria Grace sounds too much like a pornstar.

I’ve always thought Tabitha St Germain had perfect name for human Rarity.

I’ve usually said either go for similar-sounding names or just say “screw it, things don’t have to make sense in humanization-land, their names don’t change.” But these are some interesting thoughts.

Not a bad idea, actually. What could be the names of some of the other secondary or background characters?
Also, it’s completely up to you, but I think it’d be wiser to use names depending on their culture or upbrining. Example: Applejack has a very Texan upbrining, as Pinkie was born in an Amish family.
