At the very least it gives the Mane 6 season to hang around, 1980s Hasbro cartoons typically reset their character rosters with surprising frequency (see why G1 Twilight, Applejack and Firefly only appeared once because the toyline changed).
Exactly what I think, the toys always look like they have retardedly-long mohawks, derp eyes, and deformed heads. The toys with plastic hair or plushies with plush hair at least match the show, for fuck’s sake.
