Because context is king. If someone just drew AJ as the Architect, different story. But that’s not what happened. If people want to turn the original image on its’ head, that’s all well and good. The one where a bunch of apples are harvesting Boglin-like pony heads is a masterclass in just that. But that’s not what this is.

That didn’t take long. “Because it was legal” is an equally useless and meaningless argument as “well they just think differently.” At one point in time it was legal to round up Jewish people, tell black people they couldn’t eat and work at the same places at white people, and for women, gays, Gypsies, and disabled people to be burned alive if people thought they were a witch. Right now, it’s legal to lock children in cages in the desert and leave them there indefinitely.
 
Just because it was legal doesn’t mean it was right. And no, “Black people did it too, y’know!” doesn’t make a racist thing less racist.

Your opinion comes from the viewpoint that slavery itself was racist. Slavery is one of the oldest trades on Earth and was only abolished relatively recently thanks to racist countries enforcing human rights. They weren’t slaves because they were black, they were just slaves by trade.
 
I’d also stress blacks weren’t the only slaves in history, but let’s focus on the relevant ones you’re talking about. Slaves captured by black tribes in Africa and sold by the same black tribes to various countries around the world. Some slave owners were also black, as far back as 1621.
 
What you view as racism is simply history. A joke about history at that. Block the content.

Except the racist elements from the original imagery don’t carry on this one (the joke here is that Applejack’s plantation owner garb kinda looks like the Architect’s white suit in The Matrix Reloaded and there’s absolutely nothing racist about that) so crying about the faults of the original here serves no purpose aside from propagating the drama where it’s unneeded.

Your thoughts and views aren’t objective. What one person views as racist, sexist, all your buzzwords might not necessarily be in truth, nor even simply in the views of other people. Everyone has their own ideas. There’s also a difference between criticizing artwork and attacking the artist.
