I wouldn’t mind this, as long as they do it right and Lyra gets to be her own character instead of some bullshit replacement for Twilight.

Ok, as much as I am against Twilight being replaced in any capacity…I would by lying if I said that Lyra having a bigger role wouldn’t be awesome. …Assuming she lives up to expectations.

I really don’t see Lyra as Pinkie Pie’s unicorn equivalent. She’s more like the geeky conspiracy theorist who’s mostly normal but becomes a bit more chatty and excitable when she makes a breakthrough or finds somepony who agrees with her theories. Picturing her with Pinkie’s energy level just feels… off.
 
Though I’m sure that Lyra would carefully study Pinkie’s crazy toon physics as part of her ongoing efforts to prove that they’re all actually fictional characters in a kid’s cartoon.
 
On a different note, I’d also love to see this version simply for the subplot of Bon Bon feeling threatened by Lyra suddenly having an entirely new circle of friends.

The group already has a weird and hyperactive pony: Pinkie Pie. They don’t need her unicorn equivalent. Though, if it gives her a chance to speak again, I’ll gladly accept it.

I always sort of saw Zecora as the most likely candidate for being thier ‘sixth ranger’ if the need arose. I think Twi will back next season though, you don’t redo the toys to retire the character.

That does raise an interesting possibility. Maybe they couldn’t confirm Tara Strong for a fourth season, and so decided to give her a graceful exit.
 
Still all just rampant speculation, but this sort of stuff plays hell with TV shows of all kinds.

that’s pretty funny actually, but personally I wouldn’t want it to be anyone else. Granted if Twilight is a princess now, I would still rather her instead. It just wouldn’t be the same without her.

Her color scheme actually fits into the group’s better than Twilight’s…
