To emphasize applicability to a large group, can be supplemented with the otherwise redundant preceding "all of," i.e. "All of y'all need to listen up."
 
The only time it's appropriate for addressing a single person is if that person represents a group of people. For example, if you want to wish all the peomployees behind the lunch counter a good day at the same time but only the one handing you the receipt is paying attention, you can say to that person "thanks, y'all take care."
