Manticore has human face and shark teeth. its name means man eater
I’m sorry, but how is Equestria ‘remotely realistic?’
… How did I miss that behemoth of a post?
Anyway, that is a good point, but, being the stubborn and convenience driven boy I am (Mixed with someone I admire using the term to describe their Sparity OC), I’m going to keep calling dragon/pony hybrids Kirin. If you don’t like it, please, keep your opinion about me and my thick headed decisions to yourself. I seem to have a nasty habit of starting huge conversations without meaning to.
I invite you to re-read one of my previous posts @Amber
Then define a Kirin.
Sure,you’re right.
But this is still not a Kirin and Pony/Dragon hybrids are not Kirin.
can’t find anything about griffin with snakes as tails. you get points for the other two though.
still, this just isn’t a kirin.
But as long as we’re going so deep, I guess I should point out that griffins have snakes for tails, and Pegasus was just one horse. Also, unicorns are white and appear to virgins. Does that all sit right?
minotaur: still half man, half bull. character doesn’t equal species.
I’m sorry but no.Yes,it’s a mythological creature of the east, but you seem to be a little bit mistaken.
Qulin are composed of more than two animals.
Aside of dragons and hoofed animals (in which this category you can find more Deers than horses in the majority of the mythological Kirin/Qulin interpretations),Kilin are also part Tiger(or Lion, depending on the culture or region) and even Fishes.
They also have antlers, like the giraffes, which by the way, they are called Kirin in the east.
They are also wrongly called “Unicorns of the east”,but that mainly because they need another creature to compare them with.
They are more like a Chimera, kinda like Discord, for example.
All the Sparity offspring OCs this fandom have created are simply Hybrids of Pony/Dragon,not Kirin. In fact,“Dracony” seems to be a proper name to call these, you can always change the name if don’t like it,but keep in mind that these aren’t Kirin.
>You realize how much both fandom and cannon skew details about mythological creatures, right?
Almost all the allusions of Mythology(because, yes they gave us allusions,Golden Apple, anyone?) this show has given to us have a nice degree of accuracy and all the Mythological creatures (Discord and The Timberwolves aside, since they seem to be original)shown so far are also pretty accurate. The Staff does their homework, they don’t throw two animals into a blender and voilá,they take that from actual different mythologies and give them a cartoon-ish feel.
minotaur: necktie wearing motivational speaker, check.
let’s see…
dragons: gold hoarding monsters who live a long life. check.
phoenix: mythical bird that rebirths itself through fire and ashes. check.
manticore: lion with wings and scorpion tail. check.
cockatrice: half chicken, half toad (or snake), that turns people into stone with its gaze. check.
you were saying?
… You realize how much both fandom and cannon skew details about mythological creatures, right?
from wikipedia:
“Although it looks fearsome, the Qilin only punishes the wicked. It can walk on grass yet not trample the blades, and it can also walk on water. As it is a peaceful creature, its diet does not include flesh. It takes great care when it walks never to harm or tread on any living thing, and it is said to appear only in areas ruled by a wise and benevolent leader (some say even if this area is only a house). It is normally gentle but can become fierce if a pure person is threatened by a sinner, spouting flames from its mouth and exercising other fearsome powers that vary from story to story.”
yeah, no.
Umm… What? Quilin, or Kirin as they are sometimes called, is the proper term for a dragon/pony hybrid. At least, that’s what the east calls them, and I prefer it over “Dracony.”
Yes
>Kirin
NOPE.
I shall, for her name’s Lavender.
disregard last comment
Crystal Belle
Spyro Skylanders too. They got some Dragonhybrid characters
Funnily enough also mentioned in the Eddie Murphy 80’s classic: ‘The Golden Child’ where its mentioned that the hidden woman [at least until the last act] is the descendant of an ancestor who was raped by a Chinese Dragon [Chi & Japactually have different dragons mythologies apparently]
But that might just be because I’m amused with the idea of her trying to make a Hot Topic But Classier kinda fashion store.
Yeah, I know I know. Dungeons and Dragons does the same thing. But in any remotely realistic setting there would be chemical barriers preventing the creation of a zygote unless dragons were created magically instead of by evolution and I should stop rambling and enjoy this adorable family moment.
Magic baby. It’s magic, baby.
