Oh no I don’t think it’s all like that.  
There’s still can be a lot of complaining on EQD but, mostly about the things that are already base breakers (gaemloft game, certain episode(s), alicorn Twilight), but not only.
 
Overall I think it’s ok, the debate still can be heated but unfortunately they are some assholes who hate when someone is giving an honest, negative opinion, mistaking it for “usual brony butthurt”.

I thought it was a good episode, but I agree that Spike deserves a lot better.

But it’s a harmless episode. It is still enjoyable with a few jokes, and a good lesson. The ponies weren’t too bad in the episode (but why didn’t they just invite him to come along themselves?), and actually had faith in him. And to be fair, I bet if any other character was in spike’s situation, they’d have it play out the same way. Spike got off scott-free with how he treated the pets, and honestly, I feel that if anyone acted greedy like he did in the episode, they’d get retribution for it too. Fluttershy was trying to help Philomena, and Dash was trying to fulfil a dream. Spike did it, just for the gems.
 
The pets were decent, and angel redeemed himself in the end by helping him. And besides the cake, Spike did have happy end. The ponies respect him for his service, and he learned about responsibility. I’m sure that with his cunning ways, he’ll get more gems in the end.

Really? Then how come Rainbow Dash was still in the Academy at the end of “Wonderbolt Academy?” How come Fluttershy got off scot free in “A Bird in the Hoof?” The closet any other episode that comes close to matching the unmitigated douchbaggery of this episode’s ending is “Best Night Ever” and even then Celestia herself steps in and makes everyone.
 
The reason I love this show is because it is a breath of fresh, optimistic air in an entertainment biz overflowing with cynicism and comic cruelty. This entire episode spits in the face of everything I love about this show.

In all fairness, Spike did most of the conflict himself.  
But I agree that Spike needs to have an episode where he doesn’t get screwed over, either by himself, or by outside forces.

This is even worse then “Spike at your Serive” and only barely above “Dragon Quest.” Those episodes at least, showed Spike was a good guy, and he did get good endings for all his trouble in those at least.
 
This episode can’t even claim it had decent jokes. Congrats Powell, you are now the worst writer to grace this show. And if anyone has heard what I think of Merriwether, that is saying something.

Guys, I’m sure that if any other character were in his situation, they’d probably end it the same way. It’s meant to be a joke, that he ate his last gem, and forgot to save it for the cake.

I was fine when they showed giving up Peewee. I mean, there are a lot of people arguing Spike kidnapped him, which he did technically do. I was fine when they reversed “At Your Service’s” depicition of him as honorable and hardworking in favor of being a lazy glutton, because I hated that episode. I was even fine with all the shit Angel put him through, because we all know he’s a dick.
 
But to do all that, then have the balls to just kick him in the gut and take away his cake, AFTER he had learned his lesson? That just isn’t right, espically on a show that is supposed to be as fundamentally optimistic as this one!

This whole episode felt incredibly mean spirited to me, which is something a FiM episode shouldn’t be. It felt more like Ed Edd and Eddy, espically when they wouldn’t even let the poor bugger have his cake
