What Spike needs to do is throw a massive party at the library and charge everything on Twilight’s credit card or if he can get it Cadence’s.

But all those episodes used the cartoon physics for more then just joke telling. “Lesson Zero” used it to highlight Twilight’s growing insanity, “Hoof Down” used them to show what an jerk Fluttershy was turning into, and “Too Many Pinkie Pies” made a point of the fact that any realistic person (the townspeople) would be sick of those kinds of shenanigans in an hour. The cartoon physics helped the story, rather then the story being a cheap vehicle for the cartoon physics.

Putting your Hoof Down had that Bugs Bunny joke, I’m not gonna go into Too Many Pinkie Pies. let’s just say that I didn’t like some of the characterization. Lesson Zero is famous for it’s insanity.

I joined the fandom during Season 2, and I will admit I haven’t watched all the Season 1 episodes. My first episode ever was “Return of Harmony”, which blew me away with it’s epic tone, brilliant antagonist and surprisingly optimistic outcome, that you don’t neccessarily need great magical power or dangerous weapons, just the love and support of your friends. The season openers/Enders are easily the best episodes in my opinion.

I also enjoyed episodes that played with out standards and expectations. Hoof Down, Too Many Pinkie Pie’s, SSCS6000, Secret of my Excess Lesson Zero, and Briddlegossip are among my favorite episodes because they use likable characters and genuine wit to tell a story, as opposed to being a collection of gags.

As I disagree with Luoney Tune being one dimensional and inconsistent, I do see that the comedy has changed in this season. There has been less in Cortoony visual humor to verbal humor. while the characters has become more developed and has a more down to earth feeling there is still a cartoony feel to it.

Dude, Twilight, Spike, Rainbow, and AJ are constant victims of comic misfortune, while Pinkie herself wouldn’t be out of place in a Looney Tunes cartoon. Hell, Twilight DID get an anvil on her head in FPP.
Like I said, do you even watch this show? I’m not hostile, I’m genuinely curious how you can feel the way you do about Looney Tunes-style slapstick and yet watch this show.

I love Looney Tunes.

However, those gags are going on sixty years old, and have been used and reused countless times in animation. Sometimes I wish they’d use a different reference.

Don’t get me wrong, I also enjoy Looney Tunes, but that brand of humor has never felt right when this show uses it. A large portion of that kind of humor is comic misfortune, and while that works when the characters involved are shallow, one dimensional, and lack any consistent characterization (like most Looney Tunes) it works.

I don’t feel it works on this show, because the characters are three dimensional, usually consistent save for bouts of bad writing, and highly sympathetic. So while it is funny to watch a non-speaking, largely in characterized coyote get an anvil dropped on his head, it dosen’t work as well when it’s a developed character I’ve seen grow emotionally and have become empathic towards.

@Trickquestion trollestia taught her niece well (I’m kidding).

I think they’ll make the argument, that he’s too young to help in something like this. I know it still isn’t logical since he’s been put in dangerous situations before, but it’s the only thing I think they’ll come up with.

Well, on the bright side, we get the side kicks episode, which is gonna be chock full of… Lame… Looney Tunes… Comedy…

Ok, what the actual fuck is the logic behind this?

And then there would have been no one to take the crystal heart off the top of the castle, thus turning Equestria into a land of Eternal Darkness.

So yeah, he should probably be invited.

Spike probably wouldn’t of been to the Crystal Empire in the first place if Twilight didn’t take him with her when she went to take the test

Cadance clearly takes after her aunt Trollestia.

He helped her save the empire, that she was in charge of, and yet couldn’t invite him to this. That’s…terrible.
