Well, even if it’s either a swapped characters story or alt world, Little Women pony comics gives hope this storyline may continue

So there will be another chance that we might get to see Twilight and friends go up against the Thracians? God, I hope Ian Flynn guarantees us that.

Obviously, there are several species of ponies in Equestria in addition to the Thracians; If I remember correctly, we have the crystal ponies which are crystallized earth ponies, the tribe of Rockhoof consisted of earth ponies with Viking culture, the tribe of Mistmane consists of unicorns with Japanese culture, and these obviously did not come from “the three tribes” when Equestria was founded. There are several communities out there that consisted of either earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi - it seems that mixed societies are a characteristic feature of the equestrian kingdom. Only in Southern Equestria were pegasi and earth ponies seen in the same community, but the land was obviously “Anugypt” from IDW FiM # 24, which had obviously existed for a long time before Heart’s Warming Eve. According to Discord disguised as Grogar, the country that became Equestia was known to the ponies of the ancient lands before the windigos ravages.   It is possible that only the middle Equestria is the "real" Equestria founded by the three founders, Chancellor Puddinghead, Princess Platinum and Commander Hurricane, who rebuilt the federation. From the IDW "Legends of Magic" it is known that Equestria was not gathered, as there were different independent states - in contrast to the theatrical performance of "Hearth's Warming Eve" in Episode 11, Season 2 which was probably an anachronism. When the federation is replaced by an actual kingdom with the two sisters is unknown, but it may have happened as a result of Discord's chaos kingdom - it is possible that he was the first monarch of Equestria. Celestia and Luna then ruled as the entire country's rulers (as alicorns were these obviously divine rulers with special rights), but it seemed to have happened a gradual process whereby Equestria was annexed and integrated bit by bit - Rockhoofs people disappeared while Mistmane`s people managed to preserve their identity.
 
The Thracians are proof that the centralization of Equestria has not been completed. It will be the new princess’s mission when Twilight takes over the power of the two sisters. If she wants to open her country to beings from other countries, she must have order in Equestria and then get the support of her people. And the island of Thrace is not the only state in Equestria that is not subject to the throne of the Alicorns, Daring Do had found, among other things, a pegasi city state - Cirrostrata - during her adventures.

That’s sound very likely. There was no need to give Swift Food such a complex background for a three-issue story. The story would’ve been the same if they had made her an Earth Pony with a terrible home life or something like that. Yet, they made her part of a new species of Ponies, with a history that goes back to the first Heart’s Warming Eve led by a King who plans to destroy Equestria. If that’s not a set-up for a future plotline, I don’t know what it is.
 
Besides, they already did something similar when they first wrote Sombra’s origin story in Fiednship is Magic and then continued that story in “Siege of the Crystal Empire”.
 
I do wonder, however, if they will continue the ship tease between her and Sandbar now that the show basically made Yonabar canon. Would be nice if the comics acknowledge that and could led to some interesting interaction between Yona, Swift Food and Sandbar.

I think the Thracians will emerge when Twilight Sparkle takes over the crown after the two sisters, as she will consolidate her regime throughout Equestria and then explore and expand to map the entire country. Since her goal is to spread friendship globally on her world, she is likely to turn every stone in her country like the rest of the world since conflict resolution and friendship will be central to her politics along with the Mane 6, which will have friendship committee meetings each month. The Thracians will thus become an interesting opponent for the new ruling princess and the Mane 6, as all of Equestria must first be subjected to the magic of friendship before continuing with the rest of the world. And we know the Thracians don’t like the equestrian friendship doctrine.
 
Swift Foot will be in trouble with her family who may charge her for ruining an opportunity to disrupt Equestria politics, knowing that Celestia and Luna had chosen to retire in favor of the young princess confirmed in Episode 1, Season 9. The Thracians probably won’t get another chance, as the two sisters will be on guard while Twilight will then retire from similar events like “The Fear of Friendship”. They have to wait while the events continue in Season 9. Swift Foot may be punished by his father for failing the mission, only Terri Berri could possibly be of assistance.
 
The planned season 10 of next year does not mean that one will avoid sidetrack as with this arc and Ian Flynn is one of the best writers in IDW when it comes to comics meant for younger and teenagers. He is proficient in world-building as seen with the Sonic the Hedhehod in Archie Comics.

If is is a setup for a longer plot in the main series or following mini, I’ll take it, where there can be more exploration of Swift Foot’s position between the two kingdoms.
 
If this is it for her and the Thracians, that’s a terrible waste of development.

So… through some cutesy competition, Swift Foot went from devious troublemaker to redeemed friend, eh? All in a matter of three issues?  

This arc was good, but did it feel a little rushed to anyone else? Would it have worked better with at least one more issue to go into a little more detail on the Thracians and/or have the arguments between the Student Six take slightly more time to resolve?
