probably not,  
-he twists the world into crapsaccharine entropy  
-according to Celestia his reign was hellish chaos and he tormented everyone for fun until they stopped him  
-he subjects four of the Mane 6 to body horror  
-he psychologically crushes the Mane 6 except Fluttershy because she’s apparently impervious  
-he brainwashes the Mane 6, turning them evil and putting them against each other. except Twilight, this time just to enjoy her suffering, he’s totally happy of how he destroyed their friendship  
-when freed the second time, he acts like a deceptive, abusive lout toward Fluttershy, abusing her ospitality, tormenting her pet, devastating her house, mistreating her friends and trying to put her against her friends.
 
sorry apologists, that is neither ‘wicked’ nor ‘bratty’, he’s an incarnate of CHAOTIC EVIL(‘doing whatever you want and not giving a shit about anything’ is Chaotic Neutral but as seen he is intentionally and actively malicious, and that’s evil) and borders on Complete Monster. he may not look as scary as Tirek from G1, but he rivals with him in sheer evil.

No, the reason people are upset is because it wasn’t handled well. There isn’t really time for such a dramatic character shift to take place in a 30 minute episode. It felt cheap and clumsy.

He’s actually not all that chaotic when you get down to it. Heck, his main thing is imposing his own order over the world, to a harsher degree than Celestia.
 
Anyway, his favorite thing is turning people against each other. Breaking relationships and then laughing about it is pretty evil.

Discord is like a crazy old man. He may be super annoying, super crazy and there sometimes you definitely want to choke him, but he is not a bad person.
 
He is just fucking crazy and doesn’t give a shit about anything. In other words: CHAOS.

I don’t think he’s EVIL evil. Just wicked and chaotic. He’s a jokester that wants to have it his way and would deceive Twilight and her friends to get what he wants. He’s selfish and chaotic. My cousin described him best as a “bratty kid with time/space altering powers”.
 
He’s only Evil Lite.

Wasn’t she mostly just a character designer/vague idea maker. I’m pretty certain she left almost all of the writing to the y’know writers.
 
And yeah it was inevitable they’d bring Discord back and even Princess Celestia doesn’t trust he’ll stay chaotic good.

Discord is CHAOTIC. Not necessarily EVIL. These two words are not the same.
 
You could easily reconcile Discord’s earlier behaviour and this last episode by his being super-ticked off at Celestia during his first appearance and wanting revenge, and going about it the way he knew best.
 
TL;DR - People who are butthurt about “Flutter On” are whiny babies.

I don’t think Discord was truly evil. Discord was just different from others. He’s no Sombra in terms of cruelty of course.

 
Everything has a limit, you didn’t went past that limit, you took it for a date, bought it flowers and then fucked it’s sister.

Funny thing is, the concept of the latest episode came up a couple weeks after “Return of Harmony” aired. So Faust may have heard of the idea.

But she looks pretty fine about it to me. :D

He had a second chance. First chance was whatever he did to be turned to stone in the first place. Second was “Return Of Harmony”. I guess third time’s the charm?

If Lauren Faust has not explicitly criticized this decision, then this macro is not justifiable.

I’m okay with it, but maybe that’s because I was never impressed by Discord as a villain.

Now if Discord had still caused chaos and ignored being a friend, they would have every right to make concrete out of him.

They put him in Quest for Camelot. THOSE BASTARDS!
