Plus the more realistic looking Sonic was paramount’s idea. They realise it wasn’t working when even the general audience was complaining
Yeah, Jim wasn’t keen on changing it, because he felt it went against the movie-makers’ original vision, but he changed his tune afterwards, and realized it was for the better.

Actually after seeing both film versions of the Grinch I can definitely say that Jim Carrey is the sole reason better than it’s 2018 one.

Stylized visuals tend to age better anyway. The original design was ugly before the movie even came out. With technology advancing it would just get worse and worse with time.
The funny thing is the old design was not their vision
