Gusty was explicitly unable to stand up against Grogar, which is why he/she stole the bell and trapped Grogar’s powers in it instead. There is no information how strong Gusty was.

Why? There have been other unicorns more powerful in magic than alicorns. They say, right in the show, that Starswirl is more powerful magically then Twilight. And the fact Gusty the Great was able to stand against Grogar hints that she would have also been more powerful than Twilight.
I fully believe that the only reason Celestia and Luna are so powerful magically is because they had over 1000 years to develop it that far.
I figured you would, since it’s the best finale. (;
Starlight had a massive handicap during this.
If the past is changed; Twilight loses.
Starlight didn’t even really need to be good at fighting, she just needed to drag it out long enough that something gets disrupted.
Starlight Glimmer probably did a lot more tactical magic training than Twilight ever did.
And each time she went through the time portal I suspect her consternation drained while Starlight’s didn’t as much.
