Yeah, not saying I think she was a “Sue,” but I agree. Season 1 relied almost too heavily focused on her.  
That’s why I don’t get why some accuse the later seasons of being “The Twilight Sparkle Show,” as the other characters had plenty of focus in those, and Twi’ wasn’t shoehorned in every episode like S1.
 
Not to mention, those whom complain that “Twilight always solves the problem,” when accusing her of being “TOO Perfect/Sue-ish” seem to forget, honestly she solved more problems, and such in the first season, then later ones frankly.  
That’s why “Lesson Zero” was made, so they wouldn’t have to rely only on her narrative, and so other characters didn’t have to share the spotlight. Then later on, they seem to of dropped the whole letter thing, so they don’t have to be as heavy-handed with the lesson of the day anymore.

Honestly twilight was way closer to being a mary Sue in season 1.  
Twilight was shoehorned want into every other episode because she was the only one who could write a letter to Celestia (fixed in season 2)because the first four seasons has to directly told the audience what the moral was

That’s debatable, honestly looking back the first season despite being good, wasn’t that perfect. (In fact, honestly the first two-parter pilot didn’t hook me into bronydom at first. I had to watch more episodes before I began to enjoy the series, and understand it.)
 
Let’s see… Tons of animation flaws, Luna & Zecora’s existence ignored, (aside from one brief Zecora cameo after her introduction) very li’l continuity, some cookie-cutter or even cliché plots, Twilight Sparkle being shoehorned in every episode, (honestly, she was more prominent in the first season then all the so-called “Twilight-Sue” seasons) the confusing/controversial “moral” of “Feeling Pinkie-Keen,” (which upset many fans whom confused it as anti-skeptisim) some fans found the buffalo’s portrayal of Native-Americans a bit cliché, characters occasionally being flanderized, or exaggerated, (like Fluttershy’s cowardiness, or Applejack’s stubborness) things like Sweetie Belle being Rarity’s sister not being regarded ‘till later in the season, (and details like if she lives with Rarity, or not were never mentioned) inconsistencies like the CMC appearing briefly together in the pilot BEFORE they supposedly met, among other things.
 
While a good season to begin the show with, honestly it’s not my favorite.

Feelin Pinkie Keen was a pretty ham fisted episode itself, and Twilight wasn’t simply made into a Mary Sue just because she was given a new status. The following season premiere was entirely about her maintaining her flaws in spite of becoming an alicorn.
 
What does having kids have to do with having a legacy? They’re widely known as legendary heroes who saved the world multiple times. Kids aren’t mandatory to have a legacy. And I don’t remember AJ ever stating wanting kids to pass down the farm to.
