Backstory wise I’d just have the Zebras stay the antagonists. Maybe a breakaway rump state that is unhappy with the loss of power of Zebrica and there response is to bomb everyone with Canterlot and Ponyville being targeted deliberately to ‘headcap’ the Equestrian goverment. A failure among the the launches also wrecks Zebrica. The Ponyville Strike is a near miss though sparing the girls.

The strikes on Cadance and Luna and Celestia were perfect strikes though requiring Twilight to sequester herself to keep the Sun and Moon moving. The Mane Six form a new goverment with themselves now being called the Ministry Mares after a few years of adventures and leading small bands. Yada Yada, life goes on.

Sounds like a good read. I wish to add that you could make that the backstory of how the races came to despise one another. Through all out war, the distrust among the ruins and them eventually rebuilding but history becoming lost.

You know this would make a good ‘new’ Fallout Equestria with the girls having to survive the early days of the post war.

sombra is the only one who has a back story and it’s in the comics that was debunked

Well the 9th season was rushed tho and there are still some characters with no back story like Queen Chrysalis for example.Even Discord, Tirek, Sombra and Grogar got a back story to them except Chrysalis which is odd.But still the pain remains from the ending
