Actually, that is an interesting idea. What if tinkering with the Crystal Heart is what drove Sombra mad? Prior to going nuts, he was still an Evil Overlord, but he was also a reasonable authority figure. His laws were stern and harsh, but he was nonetheless an effective adminstrator…sort of like an evil Vetinari.
It could be an interesting contrast, with harsh Sombra the effective ruler with well-meaning Cadance, the inexperienced, sheltered princess.
Of course, the fact that under Sombra they kept their independence (until he went loopy) while under Cadance they’re somewhat under Canterlot’s dominion (Shining being a native Canterlotian and Cadance being Celly’s niece) might have something to do with it as well.
So DisQord just wants to be the little girl?
DisQord is in fact Moot!
I understand where your coming from, and you probably have presented the most succinct argument against alicorn twilight, for which I applaud you.
I’m non-partisan on the issue, and am of the opinion that it does not matter what they do to develop twilight’s character, but how they do it does matter.
My biggest issue with this entire ‘issue’ is how people are using non-canon sources to justify why twilight shouldn’t become an alicorn. Regarding how the fandom conceptualises alicorns, the following questions come to me:
1: How are they “mary sues”, ergo how are they perfect? Celestia, Luna, and Cadance don’t seem perfect to me.
2: Are all alicorns princesses? Where in the show does it state or imply that the two are one in the same? Blueblood isn’t an alicorn?
3: Is there only two/three alicorns?
4: Are they immortal?
5: Are they all gods/demigods?
Thanks. I just don’t like it when people blindly bash the concept alicorns or other supposed deities. Of course, Bad Alicorn Ocs are gonna get the hate.
Some people just can’t accept the fact that there could be rulers other than Celestia and Luna.
You know, I can actually get my head around that one. Headcanon though it is, given our very limited view of what is Equestria and what isn’t, I like such an idea.
Nice thinking.
I neither support nor against alicorn Twilight. But I’m always opened to ideas of other lands having their alicorn rulers, depending on their species and politics.
Is it alright if rulers of other lands outside Equestria are alicorns with similar abilities used to serve their inhabitants?
I would like the idea that Celestia and Luna control the sun and moon in the Equestrian side of the planet and other alicorn rulers control the sun and moon in the other regions of the world.
Essentially they pass the astrological objects like a baton to the other lands in there respective cycle at the end of the day and night.
With this headcanon, I believe Celestia had a valid reason to banish NMM/Luna to the Moon as a quick available solution. By hogging the Moon, Luna was obstructing the balance of the world. Not only would Equestrians suffer. Other nations would’ve been aggravated to declare war on Equestria had Celestia not adverted the crisis.
Here is a rather amateur example of such foreign rulers. No offence, Jack.

Now, I can’t speak for everyone who is against Twilicorn, but I would be happy to calmly give you a couple of my own reasons.
-1: Call me stuck in the mud, but I would prefer it if Celestia and Luna were the only alicorns. Kinda makes them special, y’know? Obviously, I can’t really cling to this with any huge amount of importance, what with Cadance, who grew on me immensely after the Season 2 finale. This is more of a personal thing, so take it worth a grain of salt.
-2: The reason this whole thing leaves a sour taste in my mouth is what it says to me. One of the underlying motifs in Season 1 and a good deal of Season 2 was that everyone can be considered special in their own way, flaws and all. What all of this says to me is: “Congratulations, everypony, you’re all special in your own way, it just happens that Twilight’s special way is more special than all of yours are.”
-3: Feel free to call me on this one, but we have had very little, if any at all, canon development leading up to what could potentially happen in this episode. What qualifies Twilight to be ready to accept this mantle? Talk about a curveball; because, for or against it, this is a big one. Yes, Cadance and Shining Armor were also a curveball. They also weren’t threatening the Elements of Harmony/Mane 6 dynamic set in play through Seasons 1 and 2.
Whether or not this supposed princess status comes with a fancy set of wings is not really my issue. It’s the fact that a character, who for two years prior has very clearly been part of a six-mare team is now facing the very real possibility of being singled out for reasons that have been given extremely little canonization.
TL;DR: Yes, I am against this entire thing. But I am also going to see this episode through and trust the writers. Am I going to leave the fandom if Twilight becomes an alicorn? There’s not a snowball’s chance in Tartarus. I won’t lie though, if Twilight becomes an alicorn, or even at the very least a princess for any amount of time, the Season 4 Mane 6 dynamic will be VERY different.
This admittedly drawn-out explanation was not intended to belittle you or any other individual with an opinion differing from my own. I merely felt I should explain this sour taste in my mouth, and if you took the time to read all of this, I wholeheartedly applaud you.
Thanks.

Yes. Yes I am. I think that I’m going to have to try to draw that now.
There is being concerned, but that’s hardly the same as losing one’s shit over a cartoon for little girls.
You are now picturing Princess Cadence with a shaved head throwing King Sombra off a building.
Die Hard in a Crystal Castle.
The m6 are retired to secondary characters for s4, to be replaced by I dunno some other characters.
It obviously won’t happen, but it’s an interesting thought.
Cadence has yet to be crowned Princess of the Crystal Empire, the these Equestrian Games are going to be held in the Empire as a welcome back kind of thing, and to foster good will between the two nations. However, some Crytsal Ponies don’t want Cadence as their princess, either becuase they’re Sombra loyalists/cultists (and it would be great to give us a better look at his actual kingship) or they don’t want some foreign royal seizing their country. Either way, they launch a terrorist attack, which becomes either “Best Night Ever” slapstick tomfoolery, or a “Canterlot Wedding” display of awesome.
Just my two cents.
Actually, that might be a possibility: Twilight pushing the Alicorn responsibility to someone else.
Man, I hope that whatever happens is half as awesome as that.
Or, you know, she chooses her friends over becoming a demigoddess princess. Because they’re more important to her.
But as I said, the episode is about the Equestrian game.
And why the hell would a secondary character be heavily emphasized in a promotion, especially when the clip was showing Twilight, and before that was the line “one mare will discover her destiny”. Cadance was never emphasized in the Canterlot Wedding or the Crystal Empire, why would she be now?
The hell it is. I would call “no s4” if it weren’t for that document confirming it. There is NO chance that a plot like this won’t change everything, forever.
If it doesn’t change everything forever, then at least the show isn’t ruined, it’s merely stupid for the ponies to forget about a world-changing event.
Mmmm, could be…
She technically hasn’t been crowned. That’s what a coronation is.
