I actually remember after the new changelings were introduced to the show we got toys based on the old ones
Edited
Indeed, for being a “toy-etic” show, it sure isn’t always one.
Heck, Nightmare Moon didn’t get a toy ’till like Season 3.
also there are a number of things in the show that could have easily been made into toys but have not.
I remember when I pointed that outto someone who was calling the changedling a Toy plug they said that has gone just didn’t need to sell anything toys which is totally why they are plug them. The same thing happened with the student’s clubhouse as well there was no toy before the episode and there’s still no toy
Yeah, not to mention, those other toy alicorns (which caused some drama) were never added/shoehorned into the show.
Which is also another strike against the “the show is nothing, but a toy commercial!” neighsayers. (Which as you pointed out already, the show has hardly any toy tie-ins sense “Rainbow Power,” and even that was hardly in the show too.)
I’m pretty sure 5 is still rare and special
They could be, but I just see ‘em as an alternative, or extended alternative continuity.
Yeah, it was basically just typical “no more alicorns![full](/alicorns are Sues)” drama, or some upset that Celestia’s dialogue kinda implied that there might not of been born alicorns before contradicting some’s headcanons.
I guess I thought the comic were in a split timeline.
I remember I never saw any real arguments for why she couldn’t be an alicorn
They’ve had alot of 4-parters too.
You mean “comics,” not “comments?”
And yeah, I found that funny too. Some assumed the comics would be a safe haven from everything they hate about the show, and yet they weren’t.
(Frankly, it seems the show has had a better track record then the comics, seeing as most bronies are divided, or out right hate them. I hear kids like the comics though, at least.) Though, the comics had some nice things too, like Discord befriending the CMC.
Similarly, I’m surprised many were shocked Cadance’s baby was an alicorn, which I saw coming frankly.

As I recall the comics were usually two parters and the stories usually felt like something that show wish do in a normal episode
@Beau Skunky
I still find it funny that people actually shocked to find out that twilight was going to get wings in the comments as well. The same thing happened with starlight and the new changelings as well

It’s hard to say really.
@Red-Supernova
We get it. You loathe the comics series. That’s fine.
I will admit I do prefer the earlier stories, (even some of the Micros) but even those seem to be getting hated just out of association of being part of the comics unfortunately… It’s like some want to forget/pretend the comics never did anything good.
I actually remember when the “Twilicorn drama” happened, many flocked to the comics instead, and for a year insisted they were better then the show. Though, that may of just been, because Twilight was still wingless in them at the time.
Edited
Maybe I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure that the 4 part comics were there equivalent of the shows two part episodes
I see it now.
@Beau Skunky
They can but most of times, these multi comic arcs fall flat on their asses.
Hasbro overviews, approves, and licenses the comics too actually, so it’s not their fault.
Multi-4 issue comic story arcs can do more then a 22-minute episode can.

It did? Where did it say that?
Because when it was first announced it said it was going to be tell the origins of cutie marks and magic but I don’t recall that ever happening
I know, I know. How were you disappointed?
Still the legend only existed to build up shadowplay. Once it was done tying in it ended. I was a bit disappointed when I found that out

The legends comics from what I’ve seen still had some questionable choices.
That’s because the cartoon and the comics are set in different continuities. I’ve been saying that for seven-eight years as well.
The show contradicted the comic directly making stories like siege of the crystal empire and the siren comic impossible to happen in the show’s timeline. The only once that can be seen as officially part of the timeline are the ones that were directly made to tie in and build up stuff for the show (legends and the movie prequels)

I have been saying that for seven or eight years now, mah dude. All of the bitching and whining about IDW could have been solved before it started if the Haterade drinkers would be satisfied with “I don’t care what the comics say, they’re crap” instead of desperately trying to break the language so they can pretend to be Objectively Right™ for hating on IDW.
If ignoring them makes people satisfied, then let them be satisfied.
People can ignore them if they want, and that’s easy to do since there was never any significant crossover from them to the cartoon, but that has no effect on them being canon.
People still have the right to consider them optional canon or not.
