Overall, I agree. It did loose charm. I feel since some writers weren’t the best, or didn’t know how to handle the show,
they tried making up for it with memes and tropes. Although, I personally enjoyed the memes, and even some of the tropes.
And yes, sadly, the flops did increase as the show went on.

Sciencepone of Science!
It’s… interesting to see a conversation about this, and to be able to say that I was with the show for the whole of it.

Eeeeh, since Baby Cakes, at least. That’s the episode where I got caught up.

Faust was far from infallible. Some of her ideas were bad, but the vast majority were very good and what made the show so great.

Some later writers didn’t really understand the show or what made it great, I feel like.

The animation quality went way up, but the writing quality became more hit and miss, though a number of cartoony tropes I very much dislike faded out, later, so did a lot of the charm - in a lot of episodes.

By about season 9 - what I’ve seen of it is about 70% good, with a few being very good. But the flops did seem to be getting more common.

…and I really, really miss Golden Oaks, still…

I guess you’re a fan of the “classic/semi old-school”, way that the show had in it’s early days.
Which, is fine of course. Personally, I’m glad it didn’t continue that way for 7 more seasons.
We wouldn’t have gotten what we got if it did, lore, character, and even possibly (although not-canon) comic wise.
Which I enjoy(d) greatly, but everyone has their tastes.

I couldn’t possibly disagree more. Faust made thr show what it is. She no longer was involved after season 2. The episodes were filled with forced “comedy” and memes and it was more of a commercial than before. In short, the later seasons suck, but the old ones have fresher writing.

Hmm, I’d say the first 3 Seasons felt more like a typical kids/young girls show (in comparison to S4+).
While 4+ is when it really became an “everybody” show. The quality went up from there, one could even say dramatically.
Although of course, it was a bit rocky, as they tried to shove all this lore and whatnot into it a bit too late.
Some writers didn’t know how to handle the characters properly as well.
Deep/interconnected lore in episodic types of shows is the kind of thing that needs to either happen from the beginning,
or not at all. Unless the writers can somehow make it work, which this shows team couldn’t. Or at least,
not as well as it should have. The target audience didn’t make that any easier.

Not that it was bad but too much of a normal kids show after. Certain areas had them trying to hard to force memes in and making it feel cringey. Theres this weird, subtle, and understated quality to the first season
