*Duh,_* obviously. Everyone knows that. It's "[also the Latin word for":](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mare_(disambiguation)) "sea". A lot of lower elevation places on the moon are called "mares", because if you filled them with water (impossible on the moon with its temperature extremes and no atmosphere), they'd fill up and become seas.
