Don’t get me wrong. I admire him for trying to make things right. But having him decide the Mean Trio’s fate was a line too far. Their fate should’ve been left to Twilight.

Well, I can forgive him, whether you like it or not.
Either way, he committed a high crime.
Wouldn’t it have been worse if he didn’t confess?
Even so, he should not have been the one to decide their fate. Plus, what he confessed to was basically treason against Twilight.

I dont agree with the tirek backstabbing being bad as that started him on the process of starting to value friendship but yes I agree with everything else u said.
He had genuinely good intentions but his chaotic nature and overconfidence tripped him up.
Backstabbing everyone by siding with Tirek … that was the writers throwing out his entire character development.
Compared to that I found the finale rather well written.
Okay, that and the rainbow lasers.
And all he got for it was a stern finger wagging? That’s oxsyay!
This sort of situation is entirely what I expected of him.
Hope is the first step to the road of disappointment.
@AC97
You know what? I’m angry about that twist and about a lot of things in the finale but you do make a good point.
I already did that, I think
I’m removing the designated hero tag since of all the possible complaints, being treated as in the right despite his screwup isn’t one. In fact, it’s factually incorrect.
Celestia sure showed anger for the complete fuckup.
(Nicole Oliver has a great voice, by the by)
None of the heroes were happy he pulled this. None of them.
If this were a “Designated Hero” situation, he would’ve been portrayed as 100% righteous, but the narrative unequivocally pointed to “Discord fucked up royally, regardless of how well-intentioned the plan was,” and he had to save their lives to redeem himself from it.
And you’re correct. Discord has fancied himself as a trickster mentor, since S4, except he cares more about Twilight now. This was very apparent in the S9 premiere, where he was really insistent on Twilight winning against Sombra.
Only this time, the “safety net” part of the plan got blown to hell due to him underestimating his foes… which has happened with Celestia and Luna with the Elements, it happened with the Mane Six when he didn’t realize that they weren’t Discorded anymore before it was too late, it happened when he underestimated and trusted Tirek, and it happened here.
Discord absolutely is a flawed character, despite being both intelligent and an excellent manipulator (and a good actor, because he was good at pretending to be something he isn’t), which is why he’s interesting to me.

definitely
