Well I’ve voiced my complaints about the show in the past too, so I don’t have much room to talk. But I don’t think it really matters in the end because in the end your always going to have those types of people who are going to complain about something. I mean people have a right to voice their veiwpoints and opinions but it’s up to the individual to decide wether or not to agree or disagree.
So the complaint are it’s a symptom of the loss of for the series. OK.
If they want to complain about it they should still say what they would think is better and why.
To be fair, I’m not complaining I’m just recalling what others are or have said.
When you really get down to brass tacks though, isn’t just about every character on the show just a pallet swap with another character? Just with some minor details to design? But despite that; each character makes up for it with having their own unique personality.
My real gripe is with how the writing had gone downhill in later seasons. Sure there were some episodes that were good, but the overall narrative just felt like it was slapped together.
I’m not saying writers don’t struggle or don’t stress over deadlines. But people do get burnt out after awhile.
“The show writers just lost their passion for the show!”
Well here’s the thing that most people don’t seem to take into account. For these people, it’s a full-time job. Like anything else they have to complete a task and make sure it meets the company’s demand and approval. Every. Week.
So it’s natural that the show staff get fatigued and burnt out after making the same time thing after so many years. Especially when you have others who constantly nit-pick and shit on your hard work.
Not every episode is perfect and not every season is spectacular. But I can still respect the work ethic these people put in to the show.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that people should at least try to think from a show creators perspective once in awhile.
This is the 1st pallet swap of Celestia’s base, that’s unique. What more unique things do they want? Name them.
And they did giver her a unique hairstyle and regalia. Not much but as much or more than other popular characters. Daring Do’s a pallet swap of Rainbow Dash with clothes, Moondancer of Twilight for as much thematic reason as Twi becoming a swap of Celestia (their differences are for thematic reasons that don’t apply here), and many of the background ponies we’ve grown so attached to are pure pallet swaps.
The one problem I can see is Twilight growing up so soon (most assume it would take centuries) refuted a lot of headcanon.
I think maybe most people are calling it lazy mainly because it just looks like they did a simple pallet swap without really adding any real unique characteristics to her overall design.
Is it really lazy if it’s something fans have done since before Twilicorn was canon? What would you do differently.
Considering we’ve seen normal ponies close to her body type, her normal pony form may not be that different
Agreed. Look’s too much of a lazy color-swap to a certain extent, with only mane and the bling changed.
The only fallback you have for them being born alicorns is going “technically, Equestria didn’t exist when they were born.” Which is unfounded, obviously.
And they’d be withholding information when there’s no good reason to do so. Unless they somehow don’t trust the ponies around them enough to chime in with “actually, we were born this way, but to alicorns,” for some inexplicable reason.
@Andelai
“Responsibility,” yes, but as Copper Knight pointed out to me, Twi just had to utilize the amulet Celestia and Luna empowered for sun/moon manipulation. I still don’t think it’s explicitly shown whether she ever stops using it, but it seemed like it was meant as her primary way of controlling the sun/moon.
@546 Horsepower
Were they, though? S6E1, Celestia: “The birth of an Alicorn is something Equestria has never seen.” Luna: “It is beyond even our understanding.” C&L also don’t contradict Rarity’s statement that alicornness (specifically, alicorn wings) has to be earned. Ergo, C&L either were created though some process other than biological birth, or ascended at some point.
You also have to consider the power the alicorn has. Twilight didn’t become only the ruler of a country. She took the responibility for the day and night cycle and duties of both sisters (unless she hired someone to do “earthly” work like papers for her). She still remained the “Princess of Friendship”. She aged and grew in a magical, not phisical way. I don’t think she is immortal. Cadance ruled only over a “disctrict”. Her powers weren’t strong.
Don’t get me wrong that I fully defend her new look, it could’ve been much better, but I understand the possibility of her becoming like the pony she always looked up to. Maybe she did that to herself? Who knows?
The Journal of the Two Sisters has been retconned (in it, Starswirl shows them the Tree of Harmony for instance).
I compared screencaps of Twilight from season 4 and 9. There’s not a difference between them.
Somebody on Reddit read Hasbro’s printing of the Journal of the Two sisters. They said it contained something about their childhoods
Edited
Clearly, you didn’t notice that Twilight was getting slightly taller every season.
Also, you are assuming certain aspects are still canon despite contradictions in those canon.
Don’t forget that horse play was celebration of deed that they did when they already been adults.
Celestia and Luna are biggest because they were born alicorns. Big babies equal bigger adults.
Cadence is almost as tall as Luna because she was ascended before puberty. (She was an alicorn in high school-Neigh Anything)
Twilight was an adult when she ascended. It’s why her alicorn model was a slightly modified unicorn. She already reached her tallest height by then. She wouldn’t have grown anymore just by assuming the throne.
What she did gain was the infamously long lifespan.
If Shining and Cadence were too old to be seen here, they aged. Cadence never ruled Equestria, only the Crystal Empire. Celestia and Luna did, and they lived for 1111+ years (Horse Play)
Immortality blues, yes. Celestia-tall, no
She was at least 130 years old when NMM incident happened.
