The fun of fan fiction and fan art is that we can use whatever ships we want. So even if we don’t like a canon ship or if one of the ships we like doesn’t become canon, there’s always an alternative for that. So why rain on other people’s parade?

In real life or in MLP’s canon? For both cases, they don’t outnumber us. LGBT people are a minority and while we’re starting to get LGBT representation in fiction, it’s nowhere near as much as straight fictional couples.
I just listed more than four canon straight couples in MLP. It’s not like the series had zero straight ships. We only got two gay canon couples. So, that’s the exact opposite of what you’re saying.
