they literally had two options for this finale. Either they all become alicorns and everyone screeches like they did with Twilight 6 years ago (btw the claim that she wouldn't outlive her friends was that long ago), or she does outlive them because alicorns canonically live longer lives, as proven by Luna and Celestia. Either way, people are pissed off. This was the safer of the two options. It's not incompetence like people want to think. If Discord could make others immortal, why didn't he make Fluttershy immortal IMMEDIATELY?
