As Twilight put the camera down after the group had seen the whole thing, the time had come to put right all of the clone’s wrongdoings. Despite Rarity’s fury at her loss of magic, Rainbow Dash stomped forward, right past the fashionista, with a pained expression on her face.
There was nopony to be angry at anymore, the whole thing was still technically Twi’s fault, but Twilight didn’t want any of that to happen to her friends, and the blue pony knew it. Instead of throwing it in her friends face in a fit of incredible rage, Rainbow swallowed her anger and took on a calmer, sadder tone.
“S… so, what do we… can we do about my wings?”
She choked a little as she spoke, trying to sound less demanding, and more beseeching. Twilight’s ears pricked up as she instantly thought of how easy it would be to further tease Dash about how it wouldn’t be possible at all, but quickly realised what kind of immense pain, loss, and sadness she must have been through in the past few days. She hastily noted the tear-stained patches of fur under Rainbow’s eyes and furrowed her brow sympathetically, carefully sliding a hoof around her friend’s neck.
“We get them right back on you”
Twi couldn’t help but grin widely as she watched Dash’s face light back up in seconds. Her loss was clear, and the group didn’t waste any time getting out of the library, Rainbow hastily leading the way.
“Come on Twi! Come on!”
Rainbow bounced up and down with the excitement of a baby foal opening their presents on Hearths Warming Day. Twilight shook her head and giggled as she followed.
“It just needs one thing…”
She began dimly, but before she could finish, an orange pony had already appeared at her side.
“Don’t worry Twah, go ahead, these don’t belong to me”
Applejack never ceased to surprise the group with her honesty, generosity, and all round kindness. This time however, Applejack’s good will would pay off. Twilight feigned a frown and leaned down, putting her snout to the orange wings. The group was confused, this didn’t look like a spell.
“YEOWCH!”
Screamed Applejack all of a sudden, spinning around.
“What was that for Twah?”
She rubbed her wing gently as Twilight leaned back up with an orange feather sticking out of her mouth. Her horn began to glow and it levitated towards Rainbow as she smiled childishly at Applejack before trotting slowly over to Dash. She stopped just short of her and held the feather to Rainbow’s side.
“I know it’s not who you are AJ… but… well, there’s really no reason why you have to lose them. I can give Rainbow back her wings with just one feather, and all of that drivel my clone said about races and species was nonsense.”
She paused briefly for breath, allowing a moment for what she had said to sink in. Twilight caught AJ’s unsure wandering green eyes with her own, and continued.
“You’re still an Earth pony, you still have your connection to nature…”
Twilight noticed Applejack looking sheepishly over at a still tremendously excited Rainbow whom was almost physically buzzing with happiness, too much to notice the other girls as she gazed at the feather hovering by her side. The lilac pony cantered over to Applejack and whispered in her ear.
“… And I know that it’d be a good excuse to spend more time with Rainbow”
Applejack’s orange freckled cheeks began to redden slightly and she lowered her head further, but caught Twilight’s caring smile looking down at her. She tilted her head and thought briefly about it before turning back to the unicorn and nodding silently.
With this, Twilight swiveled and faced Rainbow.
“Are you ready to soar into the big blue again?!”
She yelled playfully.
“YES YES YES!!!”
Rainbow squealed back, her voice cracking.
By a mere glow of her horn, and a few seconds of astounding magical expertise, the others watched in amazement as the orange feather disappeared in a flash, and now two tufts of blue feathers gently extended out from the pegasus’ sides. Rainbow’s pupils enlarged as the tender sensation of the soft plumes returned to her body, and almost as soon as Twilight’s horn had finished glowing, she gracefully unfurled them in a majestic display before her friends.
With a squeal of happiness and a hard kick into the ground, Rainbow wasted no time in shooting off into the sky, tears of joy streaming away from her face as the air coursed beautifully through her brand new wings.
Applejack stood by with a gentle grin on her face. It brought her pleasure more than any of the others to see Rainbow so happy again, she was so lost in the moment that she almost didn’t notice Twilight prod her gently in the side. Twilight had observed her reaction and looked at her with lowered eyelids, now fully confident in her earlier suspicions.
“Go on, enjoy it with her”
It’s someone whacking their best friend while going “Wow…I am such a terrible person.”
