That kinda reminds me of how everyone references Bugs Bunny’s famous catchphrase, “What’s up, doc?” , often including them eating a carrot, but nobody remembers that Bugs eating a carrot was itself a reference to a scene from a 1940’s movie called “It Happened One Night”, in which the male lead (played by Clark Gable) eats some raw carrots that he stole. The reference was obvious to audiences back in the 40’s and 50’s, but most nowadays have either forgotten or never known about It Happened One Night, everyone just knows Bugs Bunny.
