I get the distinct impression that Chrysalis’s regime was kind of an obey-or-die thing, so your identity was whatever she damn well said it was.
Or its possible they had this problem before the transformation. We really don’t know what they were like before it happened.
That makes me wonder, though… Considering how recent that was (less than three years ago real-life time, possibly even less in in-universe time), has there actually been enough time for them to develop enough of a cultural identity that there even would be an established norm for them?

Starlight was also there from the very beginning of the changelings’ sudden social evolution,
and arguably helped make it happen.
She has also consistently shown great interest in the changelings and their adaptions to their new forms.
Of any of the non-pony species, she’d probably know changelings the best, enough perhaps to make this statement.
All that being said, this is still a funny post.
She is friends with Thorax. And was at that meeting that showed that Changelings do suffer from this problem.
