Let’s see… Close childhood friends, broken apart through something beyond their control. Ended up making their lives miserable for years. Made friends again with their childhood friends after getting over it after a fight. Became the best characters in their respective franchises.
Definitely a good tribute.
Except Starlights backstory is really well done. And I was an Ukyo fan 20 years before G4 MLP.
Then why didn’t they put any effort into it, like Rumiko did with Ukyo, one of my favorite Ranma 1/2 characters?
It really is astounding to see the dissonance between intention and quality. A good writer can tribute. A bad writer can bastardize. I was an Ukyo fan a good 4 years before G4 mlp even started. (Anime-shipped her with Ryoga, manga-shipped her with the cross dressing ninja.)
