This is why naming OCs is so hard. It took me WEEKS to name a family of five. It’s not exactly simple to name two unicorns, an earth pony, and two pegasi.

I still think “Clear Sky” sounds more like a pegasus name than a unicorn name.
 
I’m wondering if this was a case of executive meddling. We would expect Quibble Pants to be dating another pegasus, who had a pegasus child (with presumably a pegasus ex-dad). Making Clear Sky a unicorn may have been some shoe-horned diversity.

Salty, much? Clear Skies was a literal joke character who was only onscreen for a few lines in a single episode (Tanks for the Memories). Her entire purpose was to be an MLP parody of the “Who’s on First?” sketch by Abbott & Costello, along with the other characters that appeared during that brief scene. It’s well within the writers’ rights to choose a similar name for a different character, especially if it’s not literally the same.
