Those comparisons sound pretty forced when you consider them.  
This show has several designs and some being similar doesnt mean it should be only theirs, especially if the similar color combos have different palettes.  
Also dont think Ember is Tsundere. She never showed friendly affection spike gave just like most dragons and comes off more awkward. She isnt directly denying any feeling, shes adapting to general friendship, just like Smolder.

I dunno about Smolder being tsundere. It’s bad enough she has Spike’s head and Scootaloo’s colors, adding Ember’s (arguable) personality might be too much.

Genervt is joking about Smolder being a tsundere, a stereotype of anime characters who are very mean on the outside but sweet and loving on the inside. And “I’m not cute!” is one of the common line to hear from them.
