Description

“D’entre ses cuisses fermes jaillit une cascade dore, myriade d’toiles tincellantes au soleil, qui s’tiola quelque distances en une brume lgre d’ou naquit un arc-en-ciel.”

Took one week to render with Cycles on a 580GTX/i7 2600K@4.6 Ghz/16 GB. Gotta apply to pixar now.

luna model by kp-shadowsquirrel. i’m so sorry.

I’ve had used something like this for this animation, with three internal fluid emitters and an hollowed-out box with a vertical slit. it requires a lot of tuning too, and it was a hell to simulate at a high resolution, thanks to the 16 gigs.

I did an experiment in the Blender modeling and animation program, using a hollowed-out box as something of a bladder, and minimized spheres as particle urine. It requires some fine-tuning; but so far, I’d say it was successful.

Its all about knowing what to do.
lets go this scene, what you would have to do is have her squat down a bit and move away from the face fast enough. Its not a complex movement, its just enough movement to convey its moveing is all that’s really necessary. The plus side is each one you do the better you get.

The hard part is about getting something good enough. There is no point in spending time to rig and animate if you end up with something looking like a crippled robot, and it’s the best i can do at the moment, i unfortunately don’t have enough skills or patience for this kind of task, i’m just not made for this..

Well lets see here, boning a model isn’t hard, adding some keyframes for it to follow isn’t to bad either. going a step further then static poses and physics isn’t too hard.

I’d love to make an animation with more movements and scenario, rather than a stolen-from-kp-shadowsquirrel luna statue emptying itself against a cubic wall, but there is so much work i can’t afford it alone. The blender’s fluid engine is great and fun to use though.

I agree with MaggieSimpson. There are CGI images of stallions urinating just to relieve themselves, but most animations where the male(s) is(are) urinating depicts him or them doing so on a female as some obscene gesture of dominance. I’d like to see, in an animation, a stallion, by himself, urinating just to relieve himself.

Having said that, I get the idea that Princess Luna, in this animation, is less patient with her bladder than Princess Celestia is with her bowels.

From what I could find, the sentence in the description is a lot hotter in context than the animation.

from my understanding, and this may be wrong, but anywhere you want to have movement, make sure there are at least 3 loop cuts. topology in areas that don’t need to move matter less, but if possibly always have quads. there is also a certain topology that works well for faces, but i can’t help you on translating that from human to cartoon pony… i would suggest looking up source film maker models and seeing their topology.

@alidan
Oh yeah i see. in this exemple the low poly topology is a complete mess but the subdivision has cleared everything. However it’ll be hellish to animate this thing properly but for simple rendering purpose it should be enough.. i’m gonna try, thanks for the links.

topology doesn’t matter unless you want to animate it, the only reason tris are not used or at least not recommended is mostly for deformation purposes…

here i found this

that low frame model is most likely the base mesh and the high detail is multiple sub divide layers, it was used to make

i think thats about as low detail as you can go and still make it look right.
Background Pony #A921
Well maybe i should try again, these pictures are quite detailed. There is a lot of problems i can’t figure how to solve (keep a good topology when you make the eyes/ears for example) and i often end with something uncanny but i don’t spend a lot of time on it, it’s not my main hobby. I work on a realistic unicorn model at the moment and after 14 major revisions i’m still not satisfied with it.

But cartoon models is surely more simple, i think i will try again someday. There is no G3 models at all and i really want one for cuteness purpose. Thanks for the pictures.

honestly, 3d is nowhere near as hard as you are thinking, even for the creatively bankrupt. even more so if you dont want to make the thing move.

im going through the 3d tag on this page looking for blank models to show how easy it really is, so far, this is probably the best

it shows how little needs to be there especially if you dont need it to move.

its hard to find the low resolution pony wireframes to showoff, really all you need is the base and than smooth the crap out of it, the wireframe i did find was for animation.
Background Pony #A921
the rendering time is not the main problem i think, i’m used to let my computer running full for a week (even if baking the shadow will surely be a great idea). But i’m not enough creative to obtain a nice scene with a lot of details. that why i stuck to this piece of crap, it only required a simple fluid simulation and people will just focus on that. i’m not a 3D artist, i just love to calculate and render complex things. But a fun and short animation will be great, but i can’t achieve this for now.

Another like this with celestia, why not, i like her too. Poop, well i’m really not into this, even if i would love spending month on rendering the most realistic manure ever just for trolling purpose and tell people “hell i bought a +16 gig PC to make shit with it”.

the problem is almost always the 3D assets. i’m very limited to produce it and i don’t want to involve other people on these jokes.
