I haven’t really run into the “sexism” yet, but at least at the beginning they show Samus is still somewhat strong willed, and a bit rebellious, like giving a thumbs-down, while everyone else gives a thumbs-up.
Heck, some people think the Zero Suit, and the original NES Metroid secret “bikini” ending are sexist. So it’s getting to a point where almost everything in Metroid is being considered “sexist.”
Edited
While I agree there’s a lot of competent elements in Other M, I still can’t get past the uncomfortable levels of sexism (whether deliberate or otherwise) present in the game. It would be like if Alien 3 had Ellen Ripley as a damsel in distress right after being a badass in Aliens.
The gameplay while not bad does kinda lack some of the exploration of the previous games, and it’s a bit more linier, but it’s still more enjoyable then people give it credit for.
I guess trying to add more story, and trying to be like cinematic games on rival systems have hampered it a li’l. The story could’ve been better, but the scenes are still pretty well animated, and the acting honestly isn’t that bad to me. Samus being a li’l deadpan kinda suits her, I feel, but admittedly they should’ve made her sound more badass.
I’ve never played the game, but I’m pretty sure most people’s problems lie with the story and performances, not the gameplay.
It has some annoying flaws, yes, but it’s kinda nice to play a 3D Metroid with a third-person perspective, so you can actually see Samus, (and be able to tell you’re playing Metroid, and not some other generic FPS game) as that helps you do a bit more platforming, and wall jumping then the Prime trilogy.
I kinda like how it uses some clever camera angles in order to get around using the Wii-mote’s 8-direction directional pad, and make you feel like you’re a 3D sidescroller at times, while mixing more open areas too.
One thing that kinda annoys me is, you can only recover energy at save points, or when your health is low. (Via a special move.) Not getting items from downed enemies does kinda take away the reward for beating ‘em.
@Ebalosus
Ehhh… It all fairness, she is actually a bit rebellious at times, (like with the thumbs-down) and gets to kick ass, at least. She’s still strong.
@Nightwing
You can actually dodge if you turn the Wii-remote sideways quickly, (to get out of FPS mode) and tap the directional pad as well. It takes some getting used too.
“Baby?” (His trigger vord, er, word!)
Only bad part about the game-play was having to turn the wii-mote torwards the tv and aim to use missles on pretty much all of the bosses and you can’t move or dodge while doing this. As for story/gameplay going through several super heated areas fairly early on without the varia suit THEN be given authorization for a survival mechanism that would have helped a lot sooner during the boss fight. That’s pretty bad if you ask me.
The gameplay didn’t look too bad from what I saw. Everyone’s reactions over the story just overshadow it.
If you’re a member of the Alt-right, you’ll like it because it’s about a man putting a strong independent woman in her place.
adam didn’t authorize that.
