I never did actually consider making her dead. I was just fairly torn on how I wanted to do her appearance. I wanted her to look aged, older than characters like Mrs. Shy or Windy Whistles, but not as old as Granny Smith. Ultimately I decided on wrinkles under the eyes like the mom characters in the show but fading her mane and adding lines of gray :D

Yes, with a younger, pre-motherhood version of Kali’s mom getting her picture taken with one of those old disposable cameras, her wrapped around Celestia (who’s much more composed than Twilight here), but making the same mistake as her daughter; covering the princess’ wings, leading to her friends believing she’d just caught a unicorn.
