I said “In almost five years, the Equestria Girls franchise still hasn’t had a romance sub-plot I didn’t find, at the very least, able to be cut and not missed. It’s not even improving and honestly, I doubt it’s going to. Every time they do one, I have to weigh writing off the whole franchise and not sitting through another attempt at it against also having to write off Sunset Shimmer.  
For you see, Equestria Girls to me is like a bag of chips with three flavors in it. There’s one flavor that’s fine (the human characters who are also in FiM. Let’s call them ‘lightly-salted original’), one flavor I really like and is only sold as part of this mixed bag (that’s Sunset. Call her ‘spicy ranch’) and one flavor that can be good, but for some reason, this brand just can’t pull it off (romance sub-plots. For our purposes, ‘dill pickle’). The three flavors all look and smell the same, somehow, so there’s no leaving the ones you don’t like for some unfortunate guest. If you get a bag of them, you’re gonna get some pickle chips in your mouth. Which could be fine. Romance stories/pickle chips can be really good. Except these chips always overdo the vinegar flavor or leave them unsalted. Even when they try to tweak the recipe, it doesn’t end up tasting good. I’m not saying I’m going to kick down the doors at Frito-Lay and demand whoever came up with the recipe be fired, of course. But I’d like it if they stopped mixing them into otherwise good chips. Or sold the good ones along with the better version of original flavor, even though it’s going to be discontinued in a couple years.
 
I also don’t feel I should just shut up and like something just because it’s what the MLP franchise is putting out.
 
But, that said, I was also saying that I understand that people like everyone’s pal marik have their reasons for how they feel about these things. I don’t know what they are for them specifically, but I’m sure their reasons are perfectly valid, so I wanted to acknowledge that. Without acting like those views and reasons were more (or less) valid than my own. Which was…salty of me? It was that or using similar language as marik, friend to all, right? I assume that gif is of salt being sprinkled. At first, I thought it was glitter, about which I had questions.”  
Basically, I said that. Only shorter. And the chip analogy is new, but still sorta what I was getting at.

Fine, you got me, I don’t like Timber. Is that a crime? Because if it is, you’ve got a HUGE backlog of Flash-bashers to arrest. But more than that, I don’t like how the relationship is being portrayed. “Star Crossed” was good, but other than that we haven’t really seen any romance between them in these shorts (Text Support was at least an attempt, but it kinda fell apart), nor has it been made entirely clear why they’re drawn to each other in the first place. I feel that both the ship and Timber himself would be better received were these issues addressed.

You are in the “I don’t like Timber” camp, so of course everything contributes to justifying your dislike of him. You are not changing my mind. I find all these fedora-tipped hate boners for Timber to be pathetic and unwarranted, and generally a waste of time.

A: This is a work of fiction. I’m not telling anyone how to actually live their life, I’m saying that I don’t care for an aspect of the narrative. If they were real people, it would be none of my fucking business and I would certainly treat it that way.
 
B: Timber’s portrayal, with the exception of in “Star Crossed”, comes across as overwhelmingly negative. Some indication of why she likes him would go a long way.
 
C: Twilight spent most of LoE terrified of her own abilities, doubting her own judgment, feeling helpless againt the darkness inside her, and convinced she was a danger to everyone around her. That’s not likely to do her self-image and self-esteem any favors, and it’s not as though being treated like shit by literally everyone at Crystal Prep would have left her very confident to begin with. As such, her opinion of herself was probably at one of the lowest points it had ever been for most of the movie, with her only starting to see her true worth again after the pep-talk that finally rinsed Midnight Sparkle out of her head for good.It’s entirely possible she never thought anyone would be interested in her and she shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. (That’s basically how things went for me in high school, someone told me there was a dance coming up in the next week or so and I was the best she could do on short notice, and I thought it was a minor miracle that anyone would settle for me and didn’t want to leave high school without going on at least one date; stupid reasons, in retrospect.)
 
D. That face Twilight’s making up there doesn’t exactly suggest that she’s enjoying his company. :P
