I think the problem more ie less that it’s CG and more that animated films in recent years have gotten stuck on the same formula for about 15 years.

It also didn’t help that I’m tired of the whole “cgi bad, 2D good” trend that keeps popping up in certain animation studios.
 
Also, are we still getting a G5 mlp movie, or is this one going to be the one that flows into G5?

That’s basically my opinion on the whole ordeal.

Tbh I don’t mind animated film’s being cgi.
 
Yes I know it’s a shame not a lot of 2D stuff gets made, but people need to realise that times are changing. Traditional animation doesn’t sell anymore.
 
Plus things like story and characters and such are just as important to a film too.  
A crappy movie is still a crappy movie, regardless on if it’s CGI or 2D  
(People seem to forget that 2D/traditional animated films have had their share of turds too)

I think the CGI in their films are rather pretty but that’s not the point I was trying to make. The point I’m making is that the success of films like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and Shrek are a huge reason why CGI animated films ended up taking over while traditionally animated films more or less died.

I heard about that and I even saw some of the early hand drawn animation for it. It looked rather pretty too so it’s a shame that didn’t happen.

Originally Frozen was going to be traditionally animated but those plans were cancelled after the commercial failure of the Princess and the Frog.
 
If only tha had happened. Then traditional animated movies would be alive and well today…

It’s funny, but Pixar and Dreamworks are actually pretty lousy at CGI.
 
Advent Children is how old now? And it’s still better than anything gaijin companies can put out.

It’s not like they didn’t try bringing 2D animated films back. The Frog Princess and Winnie the Pooh just didn’t do well in the box office. (Also Pixar and DreamWorks are just as much to blame in this too.)

It’s not drawn on paper with pens but even the kind of people that want Disney to return to traditional animation accept that it will all be drawn digitally if it was to return (as Disney movies have been since the 90’s).
