One of my primary complaints about “Past Sins” was the way Pen Stroke threw Spike’s relationship with Twilight under the bus in favor of bringing Nyx into her life. Like most fan fics, he’s mentioned in the beginning, and in the end, being largely ignored all the way through once the author has seen him off the property.
 
This story, though up to Pen Stroke’s usual level of polish, did little to assuage that. It still basically made Spike act horrible to Nyx, and did nothing to define their relationship to one another. At the end, Twilight basically takes Spike aside and says, “Deal with it.”
 
I don’t mean to sound utterly harsh towards Pen Stroke, who has earned his position in the fandom, but taking a character O.O.C. to make us more sympathetic to an O.C. is something that even an author of his caliber can not carry off.
