(Dude are you sure? Since when do they have a princess?) Um, announcing the Princess of Goo Ponies? :P
Goo pony fun facts: Because they’re fairly simple minded with no predators and no real need for it, goo ponies have no government, no leadership, and don’t even have a territory to call their own. Or so ponies thought, at least :P

A lot of their features are pointless from an evolutionary perspective, because the whole reason they even look like ponies is because their evolution has been influenced by ambient magic from ponies, turning them from shapeless blob monsters to “ponies” over all the years. They as a species are very adaptive and receptive of their environments, like it’s why there are so many regional variants and ones that have developed esoteric things like bioelectricity or toxicity. They have pony-like shapes, “hair”, “ears”, intelligence, etc, because ponies have them, even though they don’t technically have an evolutionary need for them :D
I know, my point was that if their intelligence serves no practical use then, evolutionarily speaking, it’s nothing but a waste of energy, meaning evolution will result in its eventual removal
They’re not stupid or lacking in mental ability. They’re on par with ponies. They just have an easy existence so they don’t really learn much :D
If they have no need of intelligence then it will probably only be a few dozen generations before they’re on the edge of sapience

your current filter.They have the same intellectual potential as regular ponies. They just tend to be simple-minded since they don’t really need to use it. They don’t need to use their brain power since their physiology allows them to easily live without it. One that actually wanted it could be educated just as easily as any pony could. Mean Twi got to keep all her brain power :D

To be fair having such a simple oversight in an otherwise seemingly good plan is totally in line with normal Twilight XD
she thinks pretending to be princess of the goo ponies will get her into the princess party and is totally not suspicious.
