Capsicum and allyl isothiocyanate have two completely different heat profiles, and wreck completely different receptors; it’s not at all uncommon for people to be highly resistant to one and cowering weenies to the other.

Years ago I ate a spoonful of wasabi on a dare…I was able to breathe through my ears afterwards! 😨

We took a guy we met at a convention out for sushi once because he’d never had any before, and he committed to trying Everything On The Buffet, even stuff he he didn’t think he’d like. He’d never seen wasabi before and had no idea, so he took an entire cherry sized ball of it and ATE IT ALL AT ONCE. We legit thought he was going to lose consciousness. After he recovered, he concluded that he just hadn’t been ready for it the first time, SO HE DID IT AGAIN.
