Description

After Ember in Orange without any blue (Day of Embers), I guess I now have a Skystar in
blue without any of her yellow. The hues are entirely in the cyan/blue/violet range. No yellows.
I did have to adjust the colors drastically in the end. During painting I had a range from
green to violet, but with a filter I reduced the greens into blue. (see WIP for change)
Initially this was actually just a random Anthro pony OC, then I thought I’d finally make my first Hippogriff
OC, but then not-Skystar turned into Skystar… same story as with the Ember piece and dragon OCs haha.
Both Anthro I guess.
It’s been fun exploring these complexities in color theory and how we perceive it all. Playing around with it, getting a better understanding of it in practice. I’ve had some theory on it, but I never quite sat down to paint stuff like this specifically.
Of course, I experiment with all the other things as well, such as anatomy, feathers, composition, poses, etc. And
this one I did move a lot slower with than Ember’s, but it’s also slightly more clean while still… dirty brushstrokes.
Maybe if I wasn’t so focused on deciding on the colors.
Oh, and I guess this is the first Skystar painting… not first sketch, tho.
Approx Time: 8-9~ hours?
