Description

I know that there’s something else people are a tiny bit obsessed about today, but let me remind you that today is the Winter Solstice, aka Luna Day! The Winter Solstice is the day with the least amount of sunlight and the most amount of night time. It is also considered the beginning of Winter in the USA. (Astronomically, the solstices and equinoxes denote the middle of each season, but the weather lags behind the scientific dates they should change by up to three weeks.)

So let’s all show our love for our most beloved Princess of the night!

Suggestion: Luna’s night is the “Long Night’s Moon”: the full moon nearest the winter solstice (before, if the solstice night falls on a new moon). Ponies in Neighpon have already started holding moon viewing parties ( tsukimi ), with offerings of dumplings, ya pears, chestnuts, rice balls, and seasonal grasses. There are poetry readings and light music; the parties are generally much quieter than a Summer Sun Celebration. The holiday is beginning to expand.
