To be fair, Tidus voice actor is actually really good in FFX… it’s just not in a standard way. He starts out with a distinct whiny tone, but slowly moves out of it as the story moves along.
Also, then there’s the laugh scene. That’s really not his falt that that scene can’t be taken all that seriously(despite it being a serious scene). I kinda doubt it would matter who you had voice him, it would still have been kinda silly.
Dissidia Tidus sounds pretty much like Endgame Tidus from FFX.
For being one of the actor’s first video game roles(he had done some work on cartoons earlier), Tidus is actually pretty darn impressive.
His work since is great as well.
Yuna however… she was bad in FFX. Like really bad. It didn’t help either that the japanese Yuna had all these short “Hai!” lines, so everytime Yuna would say Yes in english it would sound incredibly unnatural.
Cause I was still a kid when I played it.
Even if they understood, they’d still hate it because it made their ears bleed.
but the 80% of the fanbase (at the time at least) didn’t.
I understood it was intentionally awful. That didn’t make my ears bleed less.
programmer: uhhh…I am not sure Director, i think instead the public will get it as a totally out of place laugh and they will never let us to lived it down…
game director: NONSENSE! I am sure they will understand!
Both Tidus and Yuna’s voice actors got a bit better in Dissidia imo.
Also, obligatory mention of Tara Strong as Rikku just because.
