This illustration depicts a colossal demon emerging from the Abyssal Gateway while dozens of Blackguard ponies rush to intercept it.

In ancient times, Heartsbane, one of three legendary adventurers of Loria opened a portal to the demon realm and fastened it open using unbreakable darksteel chains. The gateway disgorged piles of bloodthirsty demons into the mortal realm, spreading fear and horror.
Before their deaths, the other two legendary adventurers ‘Loran the Conqueror’ and ‘Ponyru’ established the Blackguard, an elite order of knights sworn to protect Loria from the demons, who even to this day, guard the portal.

It’s a trope from Role Playing Games, because it’s very often that the player character doesn’t have a home (making the adventurer a hobo) and during the course of the campaign the character will kill a great many people and creatures (making them a murderer).
The reason form my comment was that since adventurers (murder hobos) don’t have a stable source of income, depending on the turmoil in the world to provide contracts for them, one of them opened the demon gate to make sure that the world would never stop needing their services.
What the hrell is a murder hobo?
