Outside of “beat up the nerds” since I thing she was aggresive with anyone with no actual prejudge, I agree.
 
Sunset is smart, probably can be just as a nerd given that she was Celestia student, but she’s not a bookish theorical girl, instead she’s ambitious and driven for self interest. In Rainbow Rocks, she was reserved because her entire world was left upside down, but once things were set and done and she finally was forgiven she regain a lot of her former traits, abeit tempered by redemption and development. I can argue that she can work very well as an aversion for the “Ambition is evil” stereotype since she clearly likes to take the lead, more than the other Twilight counteparts and even Twilight herself; during a crisis she’s quick to step into the storm; during the two beach episodes whenever the mane 6 where mostly OK with mundane things, in the two episodes she appears she quickly walked into adventure and was quite dissapointed when both things turned out not to be what she thought; she might not be actually feel an aversion for learning, but she proably likes to think she can learn something she can use; and so on.

Not sure why; but, it makes me a happy Camp Everfree camper when-ever  
I see this kind-hearted Sunset Shimmer get so angry at other CH students.

I very strongly disagree with those interpretations but it’s clear we’re coming at this from different places.

She felt more genuine here while in RR she felt more like a generic protagonist similar to Pony Twilight in EQG 1. Here she was more relatable and natural. She was a bully in the past, now she felt like a refomred bully. When she returned to Equestria she felt like a reformed bully who still have no interest in books but would rather beat up nerds like Twilight who enjoy reading. This is actual personality. Not “hi im plain Jane and i want to be friends with you quirky guys” like she did in RR and Starlight did after reformation.

Your preference, I guess. Sunset really grew on me in Rainbow Rocks and beyond. I think she had a stronger character in those, not “weak.” Let’s not confuse physical aggression for strength.

It was more visible here. EQg 2-4 had very weak Sunset who acted like Glimmer.

I was rather satisfied to see that she still has that aggressive dominance, only having learned when it’s appropriate.
 
I mean it’s not appropriate here, but she’s not exactly going through a good moment in this scene. She’s a person in this scene, not just a pastel rainbow deity.

I like that they finally made her return to her old self from before reformation so that it doesn’t feel like she was brainwashed after EQG 1
