Being in a similar situation, I realized the episode had nothing to do with talent or liking a hobby or skill. If you approach the episode that way, it’s kinda bad.
 
Imagine the yovidaphone as a metaphor to being in a relationship that ends up being toxic to you or those around you. Your friends come to you and tell you to dump your one and only and you realize you probably should.
 
Nothing is going to cheer you up except the reunite with your precious loved one.

Episode writing was bad, but the animation was good, and I liked the gray pinkie stuff

My favorite episode in the entire series. I know a number of people disliked the episode, but the animation team put tremendous effort into it. Making new and unique animation sequences takes an extremely long time, and they also added a new angle of the characters I don’t recall seeing before. That requires a brand new set of manes, tails, motions, and body shapes.
