Okay, realtalk? Spitfire being a mean drill sergeant goes against everything she did in Best Night Ever. I respect the fact that people are trying to make it work by saying that she’s only mean at work, but it doesn’t make sense because we aren’t shown that that’s true in the show. Neither of her personalties have been shown in the same episode, not to mention that it would’ve made sense for Spitfire to cool down at the end and say that she respects Dash’s opinion when Dash decides to leave.
We’re not trained in storytelling, writing, getting a story down to 22 minutes…everything that goes into writing an episode. Of course, a professional writer could outwrite us.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t be critical of it. I read from Jayson Thiessen (I believe) that one of the interesting things about the fandom is that we notice things that little girls don’t and that Hasbro won’t care about as long as the show does well and the toys sell.
Some of us know music theory and composition, some know animation, some know art, and some know writing. And heck, some of us are just logical enough to see an error or something we don’t like and be able to articulate why we didn’t like it.
We don’t have to be professionals to critique something, and we certainly don’t have to be professionals to dislike something.
This isn’t a very good point at all. It’s very basic and easily refuted, to be honest.
But outside of that, the aim of the show is to entertain (as far as the viewing audience goes.) If the audience on the whole doesn’t like it, then I think it’s objectively a weak episode.
It can have all of the attributes of a good episode or a well-written episode, but the reason it is aired (outside of promoting a toyline) is for people to watch it and enjoy it.
There’s a line between “pleasing the fans” and “making a good show that fans enjoy,” but the audience should enjoy the episode. Otherwise, it’s just an erudite production that doesn’t translate from pen to screen.
I didn’t really like the Mare-Do-Well episode :/
It was just sending the message “HEY IF YOU’RE FRIEND IS BEING AN EGOTISTIC CUNT, INSTEAD OF TALKING TO THEM - EMBARRASS THE SHIT OUT OF THEM AND SHOW THEM UP”
I understand that it’s hard to make an entire episode. But just as there are good episodes, there are bad episodes. Some like it, some hate it. Bitching about the episode they don’t like is just a common human response which healthy for our minds.
